Designations (Product Name)

Information and Description

The purpose of the designation is to describe an article in Swedish, using a limited number of characters, so that it can easily be identified and distinguished from others. The designation is also used as text on shelf labels, purchase orders, customer orders, delivery notes, and invoices.

To ensure consistency between products within a model or product family, the same product name should be used in the designation. This makes it easier for retailers to see that articles belong together and provides a clear and uniform presentation in systems and online stores.

To create uniformity between different suppliers, there is a standardized instruction for how a designation should be structured.

A consistent naming structure facilitates communication between sellers and buyers and greatly improves product searchability.

Instruction

  • The product description must be in Swedish to the extent that the type of product can be clearly understood. In some cases, parts of the description may be in another language, for example the product variation, as illustrated below.

  • The description must be unique for each active article. Two articles cannot have exactly the same description.

  • The description may not include additional product information, such as certifications like FSC or PEFC for wood products, or similar details.

  • The content stated in the description must be identical to PRIINH + ENHPRI without spaces, and it must be placed at the end of the description. The content should not be included if it does not add value, for example 1ST.

Structure

A Swedish product name is mandatory. Other details are optional, but when included, they should be written in the order shown below.

Responsibility

Supplier

Creates a designation of maximum 2×30 characters that uniquely describes the product.
Each designation must be unique, except when an article is discontinued and replaced with an identical successor, in that case, the same designation may be reused.

Finfo

Creates a Finfo designation based on the supplier’s designation. This allows the recipient to use either the supplier’s or Finfo’s version.
Checks that:

  • the designation is correct and complete,

  • no duplicates exist (except when allowed for discontinued articles).
If incomplete or non-unique, Finfo contacts the supplier for completion.

Recipient

Reads either the supplier’s designation, Finfo’s designation, or both, usually based on supplier preference.
