Orderable package

Information and description

The package ordering indicator is used to manage package breakability. When a supplier reports all packaging levels for an article, there may be a need to mark certain levels as not orderable, often the lowest packaging level. For this reason, both primary and secondary packaging levels may sometimes be marked as not orderable.

In some cases, the supplier states that the primary packaging is not orderable, but that the secondary packaging may still be broken, often at an additional or higher cost per primary unit. In such situations, the primary packaging should instead be marked as orderable.

Any breakability and associated costs must then be specified in the following fields:

  • Breakage cost for primary/secondary/tertiary packaging

  • Split information for primary/secondary/tertiary packaging

The orderability indicator for the packaging is used to control breakability. If a lower packaging level is orderable, this automatically means that the level above is breakable. If a breakage cost applies, it must be shown in the designated fields.

Responsibility

Supplier

The supplier must provide information about the package ordering indicator, any split cost, and relevant split details.

Finfo

Ensures data quality and checks that:

  • the package ordering indicator only contains the values no (not orderable) or is left blank, and

  • any split cost is provided with two decimal places, using a comma ( , ) as the decimal separator.

Recipient

The receiving system must include functionality to inform the user at the time of purchase about any split cost and split information, even when the split cost is zero.

This applies to stock orders, procurement, and direct deliveries, and to both manual orders and automatic order proposals.

It is important that the user is informed about breakability and can make an appropriate decision. The goal is to ensure that supplier invoice matching and purchase orders align correctly.

The package ordering indicator should always be applied.

If the primary package ordering indicator is blank (orderable), the secondary package is breakable, and a split cost may apply.

If the primary package ordering indicator is no (not orderable), the secondary package is not breakable.
