Metal can: A metallic, usually cylindrical container of unspecified size that can be used for consumer or larger-sized items.
Non-metal can: A rigid container made of glass, stone, ceramic, plastic, or other suitable material. The container has a wide opening.
Spray can: A gas-tight pressure container with a valve and propellant. When the valve is opened, the propellant forces the product out of the container in a fine or coarse spray flow. For example, a pressurized spray can for paint or furniture polish. Spray bottles are not included as aerosols, since they do not require a pressure container to dispense the product.

Explanation of units

  • The units for the different packaging levels, primary, secondary, and tertiary, must reflect the type of packaging the product has. If, for example, the consumer packaging is a can, the primary packaging unit should be DNK; if it is a bag, the unit should be PÅS, and so on.

  • The unit ST (piece) is only used for products without packaging or contents, for example, a tool sold without packaging. ST can never be used as a secondary or tertiary packaging unit.

  • Each packaging unit can only be used once per article. If, for example, the unit KRT (carton) is used as the secondary packaging unit and the cartons are packed into larger cartons, another unit, such as LÅD (box), should be used for the tertiary packaging. The only exception is PAL (pallet), which can be used more than once for the same article.

  • Units for weight, length, or volume cannot be used as packaging units for products that have a fixed length, weight, or packaging, regardless of whether the item is sold per meter, kilogram, or millimeter.

  • For trousers, shorts, and similar garments, the unit ST or the type of packaging the item comes in should be used as the primary packaging. The unit PAR (pair) is not an approved unit for this type of single-item article.

  • There is no predefined hierarchy between units, except that ST can never be specified as a secondary or tertiary packaging unit.

Explanation of primary, secondary, and tertiary

  • The primary package is usually the packaging sold to the end customer.

  • Secondary and tertiary packaging are usually those sold by the supplier to its customer.

  • A secondary package always contains several primary packages, and a tertiary package contains several secondary packages.

  • For display articles placed in stores, there is a separate instruction.

Units for content and comparison price

For more information on the application of units for content and comparison price, there are separate instructions.

Adjustment of discontinued units

If you have existing articles using units that are no longer part of the standard list, contact Finfo for guidance on how to adjust to valid values. Such an adjustment should be considered a correction. Affected customers must be contacted in advance so they can handle the adjustment in their systems.
