Article Number

Field codes IN KNARTL | OUT WIARTL | API supplierArticleNumber | Max Length 18

Definition

Article Number is the number used in the supplier’s business communication with the customer.

Explanation

The article number is one of the item’s most important identifiers and serves as a common reference for the product. It forms the basis for the exchange of information between supplier and recipient and is used to link item information, logistics, media, documents, and other data points to the correct product.

The article number is always unique per supplier, but the same article number may exist at different suppliers. Therefore, it is the combination of supplier and article number that uniquely identifies the item in Finfo’s system.

Article numbers should not be reused. If an item is discontinued or removed, the number should not be assigned to another product, as this may create incorrect links in historical data and in recipients’ systems.

Usage

The supplier specifies the article number according to their business communication.

Finfo verifies that the article number follows the required standard and is not already used by the supplier.

Recipients use the article number as a reference and search term to find the correct item.
