In the Article Class field, you specify the type of article.

Information and Description

There are eight different article classes to choose from, depending on the type of product or intended use being registered. The most common class is Sales Article, which is used for products that are actively sold.


This information is used to distinguish between different types of articles with varying flows or handling requirements within the supply chain.

Sales Article

An article intended for sale to the end customer.

Marketing Article

A product used for advertising. Has only primary packaging and a mandatory GTIN.

Fields that should not be reported: Gross & net weight, volume, dimensions, Intrastat number, UNSPSC, and country of origin.

Service Article

For example, packaging, freight, or painting. Has only primary packaging and a mandatory GTIN.

Fields that should not be reported: Gross & net weight, volume, dimensions, Intrastat number, UNSPSC, and country of origin.

Display Article

A product used for in-store display. Has only primary packaging and a mandatory GTIN.

Fields that should not be reported: Gross & net weight, volume, dimensions, Intrastat number, UNSPSC, and country of origin.

Expo Article / Package Article

Multiple articles in a display or several included articles in a package. See instructions.

Fields that should not be reported: Intrastat number, UNSPSC, and country of origin.

Modified Product, Same GTIN

A product with the same area of use, function, and perceived performance, not linked by model, design, or compatibility to a specific manufacturer.
