Field codes IN KNMODGMN | OUT WIMODGMN | API globalModelNumber
Definition
Global Model Number (GMN) is a model number according to the GS1 identification standard and is used to group a product family or model with the same technical characteristics.
Explanation
A GMN serves as a unique identifier for a model where the differences between included items may, for example, be color, size, or quantity in the consumer package.
By using a GMN, the trade can group equivalent items, for example on e-commerce websites, and manage model-specific product information in a structured and efficient way.
More information about GMN is available from GS1. There you can also generate and validate GMNs according to applicable rules and standards.
Usage
The supplier uses their GS1 company prefix together with internal model numbers to generate a GMN. The information is provided for items that belong to the same model. The field is optional.
Finfo verifies that the GMN complies with GS1 rules and that items with a model description or model variant have a unique model number.
Recipients use the GMN to group and present items that belong to the same model, for example in e-commerce.
