The Global Model Number (GMN) is a model number defined by the GS1 identification standard, used to group a product family or model of articles with the same technical characteristics, where the differences between the included articles may be, for example, color, size, or quantity in the end-customer package.
Information and Description
The GMN is used as a unique identifier for a product family or model. The trade uses this information to group equivalent articles, for example, on e-commerce platforms, and to streamline the management of model-specific product information.

Responsibilities
Supplier
Uses the GS1 company prefix to generate the GMN together with internal model numbers. The information is shared for relevant articles that belong to the same model. Providing this information is optional.
Finfo
Verifies the information against GS1 regulations. Ensures that all articles with a model description or model variant specified also have a unique model number.
Recipient
Uses the information to group articles of the same model, for example, in e-commerce.
