Field codes IN KNMODNUM | UT WIMODNUM | API modelNumber
Definition
Model Number is used to identify and group a product family or model with the same technical characteristics.
Explanation
A model number is a unique identifier for a group of items belonging to the same model, where the differences between the items may, for example, be color, size, or quantity in the consumer package.
The trade uses the model number to group equivalent items, for example on e-commerce websites, and to manage model-specific product information efficiently.
This field is an alternative to the Global Model Number (GMN) and is used by suppliers who do not subscribe to a GS1 company prefix. If possible, it is recommended to use GMN instead.
Usage
The supplier specifies an internal model number for relevant items that belong to the same model. The field is optional and is used when Global Model Number (GMN) is not used.
Finfo verifies that items with a model description or model variant also have a unique model number, and that GMN is not specified at the same time.
Recipients use the model number to group equivalent items and streamline the handling and presentation of model-related information.
