Definition

SCIP Number is the item’s unique registration number in the EU SCIP database.

Explanation

The SCIP number confirms that a product has been notified to the EU database for products containing Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) under the REACH chemicals legislation. The database is managed by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

If your item is subject to the requirement for SCIP notification, you must provide the registration number assigned to the product upon submission. The number is used to share information further along the supply chain and to demonstrate that the product is correctly registered in accordance with applicable legislation.

In some cases, several SCIP numbers may be linked to one item, for example one for the product itself and one for the packaging. If this is the case, all relevant numbers must be provided.

More information about SCIP is available from the Swedish Chemicals Agency  (Kemikalieinspektionen).

Recipients use the information to ensure that the item complies with the legislation and may, if necessary, submit a simplified SCIP notification using the reference method.
