Definition

Brand refers to the name, symbol, or designation that clearly identifies a product and distinguishes it from other products on the market.

Explanation

The brand serves as an identifier of the product’s origin and is often a key factor in how customers perceive quality and affiliation. It helps both retailers and end customers distinguish products from different manufacturers or suppliers.

In retail, the brand is used to group products, for example on websites or within store assortments. Together with the article description, it makes it easier for customers to find the right product, for example on shelf labels or in e-commerce.

The brand must be stated as it appears in the Brand Report in the Finfo portal.

Brand is subject to GTIN rules. This means that if the brand changes, a new GTIN is required for the primary packaging (and consequently also for the secondary and tertiary packaging, where applicable). In such cases, a new article number is also required.

More information about Brand can be found in the instructions.

Usage

The supplier specifies the brand that identifies the product. The brand is usually marked on the product and typically differs from the supplier name. If the product has no brand, enter N/A.

If the product has both a brand and a sub-brand, the primary brand is entered in this field. The sub-brand is entered separately in the Sub-brand field.

Finfo verifies that the brand is stated and registered in the Brand Report.

Recipients use the brand in their systems to group articles and to clearly present information to end customers in connection with sales.
